Goat Pasture

So Stephen (great worker that he is) finished the electric fence for the goat area AND set up the first goat paddock, with a little help from me. We got the goat electric netting from Premier One. We liked their chicken fencing and so tried the goat fence. Stephen rigged it so the electric netting connects to the electricity in the Ag Building; we did not have to purchase another solar charger. They are cool but pricey. So this in effect almost tripled the goats area to graze.

We have plans to set up irrigation for three paddocks (only one of which is enclosed in the pictures) in the future and then introduce better forage for the goats. Also we hope that the goat's manure and the chicken manure will change the soil profile enough to encourage better plants. And over time this will help with our low nitrogen levels and hopefully all the other levels that were low. :)



In addition to the new electric netting there is also electric two string wire running along the bottom of the cattle panels where you see the yellow in the above picture. These were purchased at Tractor Supply. This wire is offset with the yellow plastic pieces to keep the wire from touching the metal cattle panels. This live wire is to keep predators from climbing the fence. Flora has already been shocked by these wires when she was pushing through to get to some grass. Safe to say she won't do that again.
