September Beginning

We've had some cooler weather of late which tricks you into thinking fall weather is coming. It is and it's not. A heat wave is definitely coming for this weekend and beginning of next week. This is always depressing for me since it seems wrong to have 100 F in Sept. I blame all that brainwashing in advertising that Sept. means fall clothes, back to school stuff and leaves changing colors. That doesn't really happen here in Sept. And most kids go back to school end of August. We still have many weeks of warm weather that would be considered summer in most places and we will until end of Oct. The wind is blowing strongly outside which we haven't had in several weeks and the air is hot.
Sept. 19th is the Mid-Autumn Festival for many people of Asian descent. So we have been eating moon cakes the last few days sent up from the Bay Area. YUM! It's a time to celebrate family, harvests and of course food and corresponds to the eighth full moon of the year. Children factor big in this holiday with lots of lion dances and colorful decorations.
