Far over the hills to the west I spied a large collection of bee hives. I had never seen them out here before and wondered what the bees could be foraging for. Then I started to notice more and more bees around our place. Now I know! Right now we have the African Sumacs, Bottlebrushes, Calendulas, Rosemary and Acacias all in flower and covered in bees. I am glad I can give them something in this incredibly dry winter. Also the bird bath in the backyard has been swamped with various grassland sparrows. We usually have plenty of standing water by now. But not this year. It's quite bizarre when people who have lived here their whole lives say they have never known this to occur. Ah well, good thing I am not in charge of such things. ;)
